Higginsville to attend ongoing committee meetings for Western Association. The trips occur about once a month to Higginsville.  This is a unique situation for a church member. It was suggested that different organizations within the church be asked if they would be willing to sponsor mileage payments.

Laura, our secretary, will be moving out of town in the near future. Mike Berger will contact the Missouri Career Center with the same job order we used before in Laura’s hiring. Mike has some potential names for an interview committee, and council recommended he go ahead and contact those people when the time comes. Eleanor Berger has agreed to then head up the search for a replacement.

Jason McCuistion has agreed to serve on council. This leaves two openings for anyone else willing to serve.

Vanessa Gonzenbach will serve as church opener for June.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:15 with the Lord’s Prayer.

The devotionals were two short pieces titled “My Point” and “We Give What We Have”.  April minutes were read and the Treasurer reported a balance of $610.39.

Cards were sent to Rev. Eddie Hennig, Jeanne Loveless, Beverly Graham and Rosemary Witt.

SACRED CONVERSATIONS

On May 18, in United Church of Christ pulpits all across the nation, pastors preached on race in the hope of inaugurating a “sacred conversation” on race in the coming months that is urgently needed in our churches, in our homes and work places, and in the halls of power.  Racism remains a wound at the heart of our nation, a wound that cannot be wished away or treated carelessly.

On May 18 Pastor Becky joined other UCC pastors in the preaching a sermon on “Scared Conversation” as recommended by General Synod.  Rev. Nelson Parnell is presently researching African American, Native American and Immigrant churches to locate those that may be interested in participating in “scared conversations”.
